The Dallas nurse who was infected with Ebola while treating a Liberian man has been identified as Nina Pham.
Health officials in Texas said the nurse, who has requested “total privacy,” was wearing full protective gear when they provided care to Duncan during his second visit to the hospital.
State health officials said the nurse was self-monitoring when they reported the fever.
The CDC said a breach in protocol when it came to treating Duncan led to this latest case.
“We know from many years of experience that it’s possible to care for patients with Ebola safely without risk to healthcare workers. But we also know that it’s hard, that even a single breach can result in contamination. And one of the areas that we look at closely is how you take off the gear that might be contaminated or infected,” said CDC Director Tom Friden.
The CDC said the nurse was quickly placed in isolation, and is said to be in stable condition.
