NYC Subway Terror Threat : Iraqi leader says militants eyeing transit attacks

Iraq’s prime minister said Thursday that captive militants for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) told his intelligence agents of an alleged plot to attack subways in the United States and Paris.

New York’s governor, mayor and police commissioner quickly hopped on board and tried to reassure the public:

“There is no specific credible information about any specific threat to the NYC subway system”, said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. “The NYC subway system is safe to ride.”

The FBI agreed. But an Iraqi official says they warned the US.

The US is still going after ISIS with airstrikes. The Pentagon says it’s latest hits on oil refineries cut off an important source of financing.

“They’re not gonna be pumping any refined oil out, petroleum, any time soon”, said Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby.

On Friday morning, the British Parliament is back, considering whether to join the US-led airstrikes.

Some in Congress want to come back too – they claim President Obama skipped a step:

“We’re obviously engaged in war inside Syria”, said Oklahoma representative Tom Cole. “Seems to me that the appropriate thing for Congress to do is to is to actually vote on it.”

But Congress isn’t due to come back back until mid-November, after the election.
