Enthusiasts’ anticipation of the 2017 Ford Raptor is reaching a fever pitch. We have official information about most aspects of the new truck.
The redesigned high-performance truck will hit the ground―be it covered in gravel, rocks, mud, sand, snow or whatever―with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque available at lower revs.
Aided by a military-grade aluminum body that helps reduce its weight by 500 lbs, the 2017 F-150 Raptor also benefits from an equally new 10-speed automatic transmission to achieve fuel consumption ratings of 15.6L/100km in the city and 13.2L/100km on the highway, which represents a 23% improvement from the outgoing model. Meanwhile, a mechanically locked 4WD system with an exclusive transfer case and 6-mode Terrain Management System combine to deliver superior off-road performance.
“Raptor was designed to be a no-compromise, off-road performance machine,” said Matt Tranter, Ford Performance engineering supervisor. “That is why we made the switch from the cast-iron V8 to the aluminum block, high-output GTDI V6 EcoBoost engine that our team tuned to add 39 horsepower and 76 lb-ft of torque for today’s Raptor.”
