The rescued pigs were being taken to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Police expected to keep the highway ramp closed for eight hours to clean up the crash – and round up the livestock.
No injuries were reported to any persons involved in the crash. At least 700 piglets reportedly suffocated while they were trapped.
The semi was delivering the piglets from North Carolina to Iowa.
