UMES is without a campus queen with this week’s dethroning of Porsha Simone Harvey, who was charged with disruptive behavior in an exchange with a campus police officer, and, in a separate incident, cited for possessing marijuana in a Somerset County courthouse.
Twenty-one-year-old Porsha Simone Harvey of Newark, Delaware, resigned Wednesday, telling officials that recent events devalued her role as a student leader. Her attorney declined to comment.
In a letter obtained by The Daily Times, the Office of Campus Life suspended Harvey and removed her from her position.
Campus police say Harvey was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after she elbowed an officer who told her to leave a crowded hallway at a homecoming dance on Feb. 15. When she went to court for a bail review three days later, Princess Anne police say a bailiff found marijuana on Harvey.
