If you have bottles of old or unused prescription medications lying around at home, you can get rid of them the safe way Saturday.
It’s National Prescription Drop-Off Day, and Winnipeg Police is partnering with Manitoba pharmacists to properly dispose of old medication.
“Anti-fungal creams, anti-bacterial creams, inhalers, patches, all prescription drugs,” explains Sergeant Lisa Manziuk. “Those are the types of things we want people to bring in and drop off at their local pharmacies.”
She says it’s an environmental hazard to simply throw your old meds in the garbage or flush them down the drain. It’s also a way of ensuring they won’t fall into the wrong hands.
“This is a great way to come, bring your drugs, have them disposed off in a safe way.”
All you have to do is head to any pharmacy in the city and tell them you have old drugs to drop off, and they’ll take them off your hands.
