A Swiss newspaper claims to know why the Russian president hasn’t been seen in public lately- that his alleged girlfriend has given birth to the couple’s third child.
It said the Russian leader was present during the birth, and that he had reserved room at the clinic for Ms Kabaeva and stayed with friends in the area.
However another Swiss newspaper, Corriere del Ticino, said the baby had been born two weeks ago, and Putin had not been in Switzerland.
It has also been reported that the Russian leader had been ‘neutralised’ by security bosses in a coup d’etat.
Geydar Dzhemal, a Kremlin loyalist who is chairman of Russia’s Islamic Committee, said Putin had been ousted by a plot led by former security head Nikolai Patrushev.
Mr Dzhemal told Georgian television: “I think that Putin is neutralised at the moment, but of course, he is alive.
“He is under the control of the power-wielding agencies, who have, in my opinion, organised a coup d’etat.”
He said a recent visit to the USA – which bars visits by most senior Russian officials – by Patrushev was a key clue to what had happened, adding: “I think he was offered something there that he failed to reject.”
There have also been rumours that Putin has suffered a stroke which has either killed him or left him incapacitated.
