A new poll from Quinnipiac University finds Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton still leading their respective parties for the nomination.
A new Poll finds businessman Donald Trump continues to lead the Republican pack with 25%, followed by 17% for Dr. Ben Carson and 12% for Carly Fiorina. Next are former Florida Governor Jeb Bush (10%), Senator Marco Rubio (9%) and Senator Ted Cruz (7%). No other candidate has more than 2%, according to the poll.
29% of GOP voters say they “would definitely not support” Trump.
The poll finds by a margin of 4-to-1, Republican voters say Fiorina beat Trump in last week’s presidential debate.
“The cast of characters changes by the week, with Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina in the spotlight and Governor Jeb Bush still waiting for his big break. And Donald Trump still in the lead role,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
“But when the number of Republicans who ‘would definitely not support you’ is greater than the number who support you, where does that leave you? Welcome to Trump World, comparing his fragile support from his own party to Hillary Clinton’s sagging but still stronger support from her party.”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton still leads the Democratic race.
She gets 43%, with 25% for Senator Bernie Sanders and 18% for Vice President Joe Biden.
11% of Democrats say they “would definitely not support” Clinton.
In head-to-head matchups, Clinton gets 43 percent to 44 percent for Fiorina.
Clinton trails Carson 49 – 42 percent. She gets 42 percent to 44 percent for Bush and gets 45 percent to Trump’s 43 percent.
From September 17 – 21, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,574 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
