A Florida woman has fully recovered after surviving 45 minutes with no pulse following suffering from a rare medical condition during a routine caesarean operation, it has been reported.
Amniotic fluid entered Graupera-Cassimiro’s bloodstream and heart, creating a vacuum and stopping circulation. Her family was called into the operation room where doctor told them the 40-year-old mothers had ran out of options, and nothing could be done for her.
As doctors said, the condition is fatal in most of the cases, and more than a dozen doctors and nurses struggled for hours to revive her. When she did come back, the doctors had no explanation for her recovery.
Doctors and the medical staff used shock paddles and chest compressions for the entire emergency procedure to restore heartbeat. Seconds before doctors were ready to announce her death, the monitor came to life with a blip, indicating she was alive.
Even more impressive is that she suffered no brain damage despite going without a pulse for 45 minutes, according to Sun-Sentinel.
“I don’t know why I was given this opportunity,” Graupera-Cassimiro said. “But I’m very grateful for it.”
Graupera-Cassimiro told reporters she woke up in the intensive care associated with her C-section. She vividly remembers having a dream in which the spirit of her father appeared, telling her it was not her time.
