Sex could become purely recreational by 2050 with large numbers of babies in the Western world born through IVF, the professor who invented the contraceptive pill has claimed.
Speaking to the UK’s Telegraph newspaper, Prof Djerassi said that he thinks that the vast majority of women will choose IVF to fall pregnant in the future. He believes that by 2050 IVF will have made his own invention – the Pill – redundant, as women choose to freeze their eggs early as IVF technology advances and becomes safer and more successful. They will then become sterilised at a young age, rendering temporary contraceptives redundant.
Other predictions from the 91-year old Austrian-American scientist? There will be no more abortions, as no pregnancies will be unplanned, and sex will serve no reproductive purpose whatsoever, meaning it will just be for fun.
“For [future women] the separation between sex and reproduction will be 100 per cent,” Prof Djerassi told the Telegraph.
