Four people have been shot at a tax preparation office on Detroit’s east side.
Police say one man has been arrested and they are seeking at least one woman in the Friday afternoon shooting which followed a fight over money inside the business.
According to police, a 27-year-old female customer became upset because her tax refund wasn’t ready. A physical altercation broke out between her and a security guard. A 19-year-old man who accompanied the woman to the store pulled out a handgun and started firing, police said.
“She was a disgruntled customer about her refund check,” Third Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said.
Chief James Craig said the shooting started inside and continued outside. Johnson said the security guard was among the victims.
Johnson said a passerby flagged down a police officer and pointed out the suspect, who was arrested less than a block from the scene. Officers recovered the handgun used in the shooting, he said.
The woman turned herself in at 6:30 p.m. at the city’s 9th Precinct, Johnson said.
Authorities also are looking for another woman who was at the scene and may have been a witness.
