But, yeah, that’s the word on the street. The singer’s face and name have been taken off the Universal Records roster. According to Rhymes With Snitch, she sold about 215K on the last album, which is about…OK. But over all, Kelly is a star and she deserves a deal regardless.
This would be the second time Kelly has been booted off a record label – Columbia Records decided to not renew her contract in 2010.
She released her debut album Simply Deep 12 years ago, and even though the 33-year-old followed this up with Ms Kelly and Here I Am, she’s never managed to achieve the same level of success she enjoyed as a member of Destiny’s Child.
Kelly hasn’t been so lucky in the love department either. She was engaged briefly in 2005 to football player Roy Williams. In her single, Dirty Laundry, Kelly reveals she was physically abused by a past lover. There was widespread speculation that the abuser had been Williams, but the athlete has adamantly denied this.
She later found love with Tim Witherspoon, her manager of four years. Kelly announced their engagement in December 2013. She is still a judge on reality talent search show The X Factor, having joined pop star Demi Lovato, show creator Simon Cowell and new judge Paulina Rubio a year ago.
