Rihanna’s reach internationally has yet to be matched thanks to her latest education venture. The ANTI artist announced the Clara Lionel Foundation’s Global Scholarship Program that’ll benefit those who are qualified in pursuing their education in the United States.
According to its website, the program will assist citizens or natives of Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, and Jamaica in pursuing higher education in the United States. USA Today reports that scholarship grants will range from $5,000 to $50,000, may be renewed up to three years, and will be based on student need. There is no set number of grants, but the program hopes to help as many current and incoming college students as possible.
“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” Rihanna told USA Today. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities, and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
In order to qualify, you must already have gained acceptance to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university for this fall. Applicants will be judged based on academic performance, leadership skills, school participation, community service, work experience, and a personal essay. The winners will be announced by August of this year.
Rihanna originally launched the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012 with the hopes of improving “the quality of life for communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts and culture.” It is named after her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite, and was created in their honor.
