A group of African-Americans are accusing Spirit Airlines of racial discrimination after they were kicked off a flight from Los Angeles to Dallas.
At first officers were called to the plane for a man causing a disturbance over a seat assignment, authorities claim. The man who was traveling with a woman was refusing to leave the plane. They were then asked to leave because they were booked on another flight.
During this time, there was another disturbance involving the five other individuals who were eventually kicked off the flight as well.
One of the passengers who was kicked off the plane said she felt the Black passengers were singled out. “A man was sitting in the wrong seat so he and the woman were supposed to switch seats, but they decided that they wanted to sit together. The flight attendant overheard the conversation. He came over and was just kind of making nasty remarks, making them switch… He was just really nasty towards him and told him, ‘No, you guys have to switch,'” Alexandra Wright said.
Other witnesses say they were all removed because they were all together. No one was arrested in the incident, which has been classified as a “business dispute.”
