An Ontario woman who contracted the so-called flesh eating disease after giving birth to her second child in a Windsor hospital has died at Victoria Hospital in London.
According to her online obituary, Harris is survived by her husband Brandon, daughter Lilah and newborn Harper. The family is also thanking health care workers in London for the “care and compassion which went above and beyond.”
Visitation will be at the Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre in Essex on Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. The funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11am.
Health Canada says “flesh-eating disease is an infection that works its way rapidly through the layers of tissue (the fascia) that surround muscles. It destroys tissue and can cause death within 12 to 24 hours.”
Flesh-eating disease can be caused by a number of different bacteria, including group A streptococcus, says Health Canada.

I had the same disease in 2013. 3 people in Ottawa had it and I was the only one to survive. My thoughts are with her family. It’s a horrible disease and I have the horrible scars to prove it but I’m lucky to be alive.
