Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the big winner at Saturday’s MTV Movie Awards ceremony.
The seventh installment in the famous film franchise was named Movie of the Year, while its cast members Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were honored for Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain respectively.
There were also big victories for Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron, who claimed the night’s Best Male and Female Performance awards, while Will Smith took home the Generation Award, and Melissa McCarthy was presented with the Comedic Genius Award.
Smith, who was joined at the ceremony by his sons Jaden and Trey, picked up his top honour from Halle Berry, and said, “This is absolutely beautiful. I released my first record when I was 17. I’m 47-years-old now… I’m dedicated to being a light in this world.”
Meanwhile, Theron dedicated her Best Female Performance trophy to her “visionary” Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller and her adopted son Jackson, who “put a smile on my face every day he was with me while I made this film”, and her “own little Furiosa, my daughter August”.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart hosted the MTV Movie Awards at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles.
