Country-pop star Taylor Swift has cancelled an upcoming sold-out concert in politically turbulent Thailand, the singer confirmed Tuesday, after the army took control of the country and imposed a curfew and martial law.
“Due to recent events in Thailand, Taylor Swift’s concert in Bangkok has been cancelled,” explained concert organiser BEC-TERO Entertainment in a statement.
“I’m sending my love to the fans in Thailand. I’m so sad about the concert being cancelled,” Swift tweeted on Tuesday.
Thailand’s army chief, General Prayuth Chan-O-Cha, seized power in a military coup on May 22, after months of political unrest in the Thai capital.
Swift is scheduled to play in Indonesia on June 4, the Philippines on June 6, Malaysia on June 11 and Singapore on June 12.
