One newlywed couple lost a lot of money after they were robbed at their wedding reception.
The incident occurred at the Longshore Inn about 7 p.m. Saturday. Police said the suspect posed as a guest of the reception or the hotel and was seen loitering in the lobby talking on his cellphone. He then grabbed a birdcage containing gift cards and fled on foot from the building.
Police set up a perimeter around the Longshore Inn and searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 unit from Norwalk. Police found the empty birdcage and are working to determine the identity of the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male between 25 and 35 years old. He was clean-shaven with close-cropped, light brown hair, police said. He was wearing gray slacks, a white or light gray shirt and a white undershirt.
Anybody with information about the incident is asked to contact the Westport Police Department at 203-341-6000.
