Todd Palin, husband of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, suffered eight fractured ribs in a snowmachine accident Sunday night.
Jim Palin told The Associated Press in a phone interview that his son, husband to former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, also had injuries to his collarbone and lungs, but he didn’t know the extent of those injuries. He said Todd Palin is scheduled for surgery Monday at a hospital near the Palins’ hometown of Wasilla.
He said he expects his son to recover fully. Jim Palin called the crash Sunday night “one of those freak accidents” and said it happened around Petersville, about 70 miles north of Wasilla.
Sarah Palin released a statement Monday afternoon on Facebook regarding her husband’s snowmachine crash.
Friends and family members have thanked the public for their thoughts and prayers after news that Todd Palin was hospitalized after the crash.
Palin’s former riding partner for the Iron Dog snowmachine race, Scott Davis, said he wasn’t with Todd at the time of the crash, but has since spoken to several people and said there’s nothing life-threatening about Palin’s injuries. He told KTVA he expects Palin will make it through recovery quickly.
“He’ll be fine,” Davis said. “I’ve had those kind of injuries and he’s a tough guy and he’ll be just fine, back doing his thing pretty quick I’m sure.”
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign posted on Facebook that Todd Palin was “in a bad snow machine accident” Sunday night and stated they were keeping the family in their prayers.
The Associated Press reported the Trump campaign released a statement that the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate is returning to Alaska to be with her husband. She was scheduled to appear in support of Trump in Florida ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday. According to the statement, Palin “looks forward to being back on the campaign trail soon.”
Palin spoke at a rally in Tampa, Florida on Monday and thanked the crowd for thoughts and prayers for her husband’s recovery.
