Truck hits 112th Street overpass (Video)

An overheight truck hit two overpasses on Friday in Delta, getting its load stuck under the second one.

The southbound slow lane on Highway 99 is closed before 112 Street until 10 p.m., when a crane will transfer the load to allow for safety checks. From 10 p.m. on, all southbound lanes on Highway 99 between Ladner Trunk Road past the 112 Street overpass will be closed for up to four hours while the crane again removes and transfers the load.

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the Ladner Trunk Road interchange.

The truck in question was over-height and the driver was issued a seven-month driving prohibition.

A structural engineer has been dispatched to check for damage to the overpass.

“We understand this incident will greatly affect the afternoon commute,” said Cpl. Ronda Rempel of B.C. RCMP traffic services. “We ask drivers to be patient and cautious while we take the necessary steps to ensure the safe removal of the truck’s load and the structural integrity of the affected overpass.”

    1. The driver should be charged with endangering lives because of continuing after the first situation! They are simply not driver material.
