This week our friends at Renault dropped us a line that the Twizy 40 will soon be available in Canada.
The Canadian transportation authority, Transport Canada, has certified the Renault Twizy 40 for use on Canadian roads as a low-speed commuter vehicle. The Twizy 40 has a 25 mph (40 km/h) speed capability and a range of about 62 miles (100 km) per charge. The Renault Twizy 40 will go on sale in Canadian cities this summer.
Renault and their local partner, AZRA Canada, say that they are working on getting the faster, longer-range Twizy 80 to market in Canada as well.
They are working on certification, but currently the higher-speed 80 does not fit into any of the transport categories that Transport Canada maintains. The Twizy 40, for example, falls into the low-speed vehicle category that TC defines as any four-wheel vehicle with a top speed of 32 to 40 km/h. The Twizy 80, which can travel at speeds up to 80 km/h, does not fit into this category and is not certifiable as a full-fledged motor vehicle.
A launch is scheduled for April 15th in Montreal, and as for pricing, this quadricycle might start around $17,000 according to Insideevs. More details are expected to surface in April.
