13,000 surgical students around the globe were watching yesterday as a British surgeon removed a tumour from the liver and bowel of a patient in the world’s first operation streamed live using the Google Glass device.
Dr Shafi Ahmed performed the operation at the Royal London Hospital, with this the first time that such a procedure has been streamed live around the world using Google Glass.
The use of Google Glass to film the operation was following the precedent set by surgeons at Torbay Hospital in Devon earlier this month, when they filmed an operation with the wearable technology to show students at a later date.
According to the Telegraph, 90% of students who watched the livestream said that they wanted this type of learning to be included in their medical school curriculum.
