A Belleville, IL man has been charged with putting needles into packaged meat at a grocery store.
Ronald Avers, 68, was arrested after police said the store report needles being found in seven different packages of meat between May of 2013 and July of 2014.
“The reality is that this individual was going into a store and he was tampering with products with a needle that could cause harm to people and it was indiscriminate harm,” said U.S. Attorney Steve Wigginton.
All the tainted products were at one store in Belleville.
One customer found a needle in her mouth while eating. Another was stabbed in the hand.
It’s not known why the suspect may have done it, but right now authorities don’t believe there are any other tainted products.
