US Porn Production Shuts Down Over HIV Report

An industry-wide production moratorium has been put in place in Los Angeles after a porn performer tested positive for HIV.

The Free Speech Coalition, the advocacy group for the adult film industry, called for a halt on filming on Thursday 28 August. It is the third voluntary halt on production in the last year.

Diane Duke, the trade association’s CEO, said in a statement that the group is investigating whether other actors may have been exposed to the virus.

“We take the health of our performers very seriously and felt that it was better to err on the side of caution while we determine whether anyone else may have been exposed,” Duke wrote on the Free Speech Coalition’s website.

This is the third time in the last year that a moratorium on porn production has been called over HIV. After the most recent one last summer, new rules were put in place requiring actors to be tested for the virus every 14 days, rather than every 28.

A law passed by Los Angeles County voters in 2012 requires actors to wear condoms during porn shoots. The adult film industry has furiously opposed an effort to expand that requirement statewide.
