Usher predicted it last night: “He is the new voice of ‘The Voice.'” Indianapolis soul man Josh Kaufman, with his throwback sound and infectious stage presence, won the sixth season of “The Voice,” earning coach Usher his first win.
He edged out Marlton native and pop powerhouse Christina Grimmie, who placed third, and country singer and low-key charmer Jake Worthington of LaPorte, Texas, who came in second.
The night saw a significant technical hiccup with the voting. The producers decided to only use the votes from phone, online and text after a technical problem caused Josh’s cover of ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ to disappear for a prolonged period. Despite going missing, however, it still managed to hit number 20 on the iTunes chart.
Josh will be touring this summer with Christina and Jake, as well as season one’s Dia Frampton, the season five top three finalists, and fan-chosen season six contestants Jake Barker and Kristen Merlin.
