Squalls wreak havoc on Highway. 401

Highway 401’s eastbound lanes from Marysville into Kingston have been closed due to a number of minor collisions.

Dozens of vehicles were involved in the incident in the East-bound lanes just West of County Road 6 – the OPP wouldn’t guess at the total number, but a tow-truck driver told CKWS that at least 25 were pulled from the ditch. The Highway was closed for almost 4 hours.

Black ice and blowing snow caused driving conditions to deteriorate quickly around 11:00 AM. No serious injuries were reported by the Police.

Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for snow squalls in Kingston, Prince Edward County and the Brockville areas. Between 5 and 10 additional centimetres are expected later tonight.
