Dan Kay: Survivor Contestant Dies at Age 40

Dan Kay, a contestant on “Survivor: Gabon,” died unexpectedly on Saturday. He was 40.

Dan Kay was an attorney from Brookline, New Hampshire who competed on the reality show at the age of 32. According his obituary, Kay earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst before pursuing a law degree from Syracuse University.

In a previous interview, the PEOPLE article says, Kay said his decision to compete on “Survivor: Gabon” was the result of wanting something more after working practicing law.

“I had my midlife crisis early,” he told PEOPLE. “It was a big decision to change things up, but I think it’ll be better for my life.”

Kay’s time on the reality show lasted 21 days before he was voted out.
