Love Is Dead: Dakota Johnson and Matthew Hitt split after two years

Dakota Johnson and her boyfriend Matthew Hitt have split after nearly two years of dating.

“Dakota and Matthew have dated on-and-off for the past two years,” a source close to the couple told Just Jared. “They didn’t get a chance to see much of each other recently because their work schedules didn’t align. She’s been up in Vancouver shooting the Fifty Shades trilogy.”

Following the pair’s 2015 parting, they were then seen hand-in-hand in New York, confirming that they were back together. At the time, an insider said the 26-year-old actress was giving the romance “another shot”.

The source added to Us Weekly that while Dakota and Matthew “never really stopped talking” during their time apart, they decided to put their romance on pause when her career took off thanks to her role as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades.

Dakota has always remained private about her personal life, but admitted that it was the intensity of the love story in E.L. James’ Fifty Shades books that first attracted her to the role of Anastasia.

“I wanted to be involved because it’s so different and it’s an intense love story,” Dakota previously told Vogue magazine. “It’s just the most insane thing to be a part of. I’ve never experienced anything like this; I don’t think anyone has. It’s terrifying and it’s exciting.”

As well as her work with that franchise, which stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, Dakota has been kept busy with roles in movies A Bigger Splash and How to Be Single. Matthew, meanwhile, has been working hard with his band The Drowners, for which he is the lead singer and guitarist.
