Samsung releases new Gear S3 smartwatch (Video)

Samsung launched the Gear S3 smartwatch as it looked to steal a march on Apple and its heavily-anticipated update of its wearable.

According to Reuters, Samsung unveiled the new wearable on Wednesday, ahead of 2016 IFA, which will be held in Berlin. During the release, the company boasted of the Gear S3, which reportedly can run for four days on a single full charge, as well as additional digital features.

Two Options Differ In Style

One variant of the Gear S3 called the Frontier, is more rustic than its brother, as it has a more rugged outdoor look. On the other hand, the Classic option has a more elegant design to it.

Both options have relatively large faces and maintain the circular shape of the Gear S2, albeit they are relatively larger. Another thing that the Frontier and Classic have in common with the older S2 is that users need to rotate the outer ring of the device in order to scroll the different notifications.

The Third Option Has LTE

As Phys.Org adds, the third variant of the Samsung Gear S3 offers users direct LTE connection, thereby negating the need to connect via a smartphone. The new feature should allow users to take and make calls directly from the device, as well as check information like weather predictions.

Of course, this option requires a data plan, that could be costly depending on the provider.

Specs
All three variants of the device will be water and dust resistant and will sport built-in speakers. In addition, the gadgets will have GPS features and allow users to make mobile payments via Samsung Pay.

Price

The official market price of the Samsung Gear S3 were not disclosed at the reveal, but it is expected to cost upwards of $250 – $300, which is the current cost for a Gear S2.
