US : Avon Walk for Breast Cancer This Weekend

The ninth Walk on the Westside charity walk took place yesterday to raise money to build the UK’s first dedicated Centre of Excellence for secondary breast cancer.

Once again women wearing tutus and fairy wings embarked on four or 11-mile routes around the park in support of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

Organised by Suffolk Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Walk on the Westside is now in its ninth year. It was inspired by Sally Balch, who was one of the founders of the Suffolk group and lost her battle with breast cancer in 2004.

Bonk Tasker, organiser of Walk on the Westside, said: “The real reason I really wanted to do it this year is Breakthrough are opening a new centre for excellence for secondary breast cancer.”

She said about 110 women took part in yesterday’s event, which also includes a lunch at the Ickworth Hotel.

The walk is non-competitive.
