Residents rescued from three-alarm apartment fire in North York

Three people were rushed to hospital with severe smoke inhalation after a fire in the Jane St. and Finch Ave. neighbourhood.

The three-alarm blaze broke out in the bedroom of a second floor unit in a building on Jane Street near Eddystone Avenue at around 11:40 p.m.

About 13 trucks and 65 firefighters responded to the call and were able to contain the fire to one unit.

According to paramedics, a female in her 20s was without vital signs at the scene but was revived while being transported to hospital. A man in his 30s and a toddler were also taken to hospital in serious condition while four others were transported with minor smoke inhalation.

A number of residents were evacuated from the building as crews battled the fire, however all have since been permitted to return to their units.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
